Beveled Look on Landmass?

Post by SilverSurfer1221 » Fri Jul 03, 2020 8:27 am

Hello! New to Other World Mapper and really loving the software. Question - I see how to add outlines, shadows, textures, and all of that, but what about a bevel to the landmass? Is there a method to create an effect like this in Other World Mapper? Thanks. :)

Hello! We're glad you've been enjoying the software! There isn't currently a way to add a bevel to a landmass, but I can add it as a feature request for later versions. Can you give me an example of the exact look you want?

What you can do is make use of the "Shadow" property of an object like a landmass and set its colour to simulate the bevel. This might take a little playing around to get a colour that works with your landmass texture, but it's the closest I have managed to get to a bevel.

I currently use the shadow to help colour code the lands of different empires, giving each their own distinctive colour.

Hope this helps.

Sure! Something like this:

The bevel I'm talking about is where the land meets the sea, a river, or any body of water. It would be great, too, if we could get control over the "light" so that we could determine if the underside is shadowed and the top light, vice versa, or at some angle, etc.

Thank you! I've added the reference to the request. If you think of anything else, please let us know!

Any idea if/when this might get implemented into Other World Mapper? Thanks. :)

It's currently scheduled for V1.0.4. :)
