0.95 - Crash with huge maps

Post by user_nh » Thu Jan 17, 2019 4:35 pm

New version, new problems, right? ;)

Wanted to play around with the tapering rivers on my world map, but can't open it properly.
Note that this does not happen with:
- smaller maps
- lots and lots of smaller maps (tried 10)
- or even a city map with lots of individual features because houses and scale

Whenever the mapfile (9k by 9k pixels) is dragged onto or opened via the File-etc. path, OWM displays the following error message:
"Unhandled exception.
An unhandled exception occurred. Press "Abort" to terminate the program,
"Retry" to exit the program normall and "Ignore" to try to continue."

Pressing abort does the obvious, retry seems to work like ignore and ignore does nothing but work for a sec and then not display the map.

I suspect its either the size or amount of stuff on it.

Issue is actually with the map having a corrupted travel route from a previous bug it seems.

I'm going to fix the map and email it back to you. I need to download the font you are using so I don't mess up your map. Shouldn't be long...

Cool map btw! :)

Thank you!

And email sent. Let me know if you don't see the email right away.

As I said in the email, I'm not sure how the corrupt travel route appeared but it seems carried over from an earlier version. Let me know if anything isn't right with the map or if you have any other issues.

Thank you!

As always you get a 'damn' of amazement with that reaction time. Thank you very much! (Also thank you for the compliment :) )

Mail didn't come through though, not even in the spam folder - I faintly remember that being an issue before, dunno how we got around it though.
Maybe just another mail adress. Try:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX ?

Admin note: Edited to remove email

I edited out your email just in case since the forums can be crawled (they used to be completely private).

You are welcome! Sorry you came across the issue to begin with. We'll try to investigate what version may have added than invalid item, but the fixed map should let you continue.

I sent an email to the new address. Let me know if you don't see it there and I can try uploading it somewhere for you.

The original email address, I don't know why but that domain always filters us out. Got a lot of people with that email domain and they never get our emails :(

Eh, its my business email so its out there anyway *shrug*
Got it this time and it works. Comparing the old jpg to your fixed owm-file everything looks the same, which... unfortunately won't help you much. Weird little things, bugs. ^^

Thank you again, going to play around with stuff now.

Wasn't sure, but I should have guessed it was OK.

Glad it worked and glad it looks the same! The travel route in question existed at "negative infinity" (all the points were outside the canvas) so I don't think it was ever a real item.

Do you remember what version you originally created the map with?

Thank you!

Hm... It was the first map I made when I bought the software, so any version from 2016-ish? So definitely years ago.

Checked my post history. July 2016 was definitely when I was working on it.
