As soon as the SVG assets are released, so I can continue my work, I would totally try out 1.200dpi if I could :)

Billboards are printed at 15dpi (due to distance being seen, of course). The wrap on a bus or vehicle is usually 72 - 100 dpi (again, due to distance most viewers will be from it). Magazines? 150 dpi. Art prints? 240 - 300 dpi. I used to do book covers professionally. The DPI for a book cover - 300 dpi. Photo printing - 300 dpi. Heck, an offset press can't accurately produce a print over 300 dpi. So, what's the point going above 300 dpi for printing. Scanning's a different story, though.

The map I'm working is going to be 72" by 36" at 300dpi - staples blueprint service can handle that size at 300dpi. (the 1200dpi from before is folly, for sure - though 600dpi would be nice ;) ). unfortunately that's still beyond what rasterizer can handle. To be honest, I'm tempted to just go for 60"x30" and fill the outside with a fancy border and decorative elements - so, not a dealbreaker, but hitting this limit made me wonder where this stood.

We're beginning regression testing for V1.0.5, but I think we can probably do the larger map limit for the V1.1.0 milestone. Meanwhile, if you make your map smaller in pixels (so same inch size at a lower resolution) you should be able to export scale it in sections using "Export --> Area" then splice the map together in a different app that supports larger sizes.

Obviously not the best solution, but I wonder if it would work for now?
