Re: PNG compression
I did just that with Affinity Photo (raster-based, like Photoshop) and Affinity Designer (vector-based, like Inkscape). I get a PNG file that is under 40MB with a full-color image at DIN A0. With a blank, white page at DIN A0, I get a PNG file that is 434kb (that's kilobytes ... just so there's no m...

Re: PNG compression
I would say that file is not compressed at all. I just took a look several of my pieces of art, exported as PNG, in the same or similar sizes as DIN A0, and they are less than 40MB, non-compressed. That 500MB PNG out of Inkscape? That sounds like an issue, actually, as 500MB is really excessive for ...

Re: Spacing between letters
However, you don't always want to uniformly track spacing between all letters. You don't want to end up with the same spacing between an "I" and another letter and a "T" and another letter and an "A" and a "W". Thus, kerning. Letter spacing (normally called Tracking) adjusts uniformly (as you pointe...

Re: Spacing between letters
I think what you are asking for here is kerning. It is a means of adjusting the spacing between letters and a lot of graphics software, like Photoshop and Affinity Photo, have this. It would definitely be great to have the ability to adjust kerning in OWM.

Re: Scale bar tool
To quote Westley - "As you wish!"let us leave the decision to the developers if this could/should be implemented in the future.

Re: Scale bar tool
Not sure why that's madness? These things are mainly just visual things, to make a make look pretty and to have an approximate scale. Key word on "approximate".

Re: Spacing between coastlines and shorelines
Yeah! I agree. That would be a great feature to have. I was looking for something like this just the other day.

Re: Scale bar tool
I think that most people are creating fantasy maps and only really need a general (not completely accurate) scale bar. And they want the scale bar to look cool and match the appearance of their map design. Thus, an image is used so that we can have a cool looking scale bar that gives a general idea ...

Re: Windrose Tool?
I can't speak for OWM, but in other mapping tools (like Wonderdraft), you click to set the center (where the lines will array out from). Then you can adjust the number of arrays (directions ... 8, 16, etc.). In Wonderdraft you can also adjust the line width, the inner radius (do all the array lines ...
