Re: dealing with the realities of magic

But I think this is a really easy trap for people to fall into, when they start stepping back from "suspending their disbelief" and when they start asking "how would that actually work"? I think that the issue with dealing with magic (either magic spells, magic items or just the magical way that a ...

Alejandro, that sounds terrific. Exactly what I was hoping for.

Re: What are your plans for Other World Mapper?

I would like to add that I really hope for ease of use with OWM. I am unlikely to dig deeper into the options unless I really have to. There is hoping that the UI will make creating simple maps very easy.

Re: dealing with the realities of magic

Agreed, Casey. I just wanted to point out that having something done by a magician would still require much of the same resources as non-magical craft (which you have so eloquently elaborated upon). One exception I can think of: in some fantasy worlds magic is based on bending other creatures’ will ...

Re: Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

To all who celebrate the holiday I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas. For everyone else I wish you a Joyous Holiday Season. May you all have a Happy and Wonderfilled New Year! Casey :ugeek: I always find this sensitivity to non-Christian cultures somewhat exotic - where I live (Poland) 96% o...

Re: dealing with the realities of magic

This is a very valid point. Magic has its costs and they would have to be taken into account. I think what bugs me in fantasy worlds isn't so much the quantity of magic, but its quality. I think that the true game changers in a world with magic wouldn't be the things that can be done without magic, ...

Re: Sorry for being a bit late to introduce myself...

I really admire people doing this professionally.

I am more of a world builder with very limited graphical skill. I can create backstories, invent fictional languages for my worlds, no problem. But draw a map? (Or anything else for that matter?) OWM will be my crutch.

Re: Where is everyone?

I'm not the most vocal over there, but I read the worldbuilding subreddit regularly. There are other subreddits dedicated purely to mapping but it's not just the maps that interest me. If you decide to post maps on /r/worldbuilding please remember the golden rule: rivers converge and rarely diverge...

Re: Feature List for OWM Intial Release As Posted on Kickstarter

Second, which image formats will it be able to export to? I ask for compatibility with Realm Works. jpg, png, bmp (from the Kickstarter), we'll try to add TIFF. Any others that interest you? We would be happy to add them. Thank you for the questions! - Alejandro I would like to see support for SVG.
