Re: How many people here are good at making polar maps?

The moving gridlines (medians, parallels, latitiudes, longitdues) - and by this I mean curving on the display - would be the best tool. I think it is always best to work flat, but as you rotate the globe you get a different flat bit to work on . You then get to see the perspective of the other bits ...

Re: suggestion

I've already started a Feature Requests discussion here http://www.otherworldmapper.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=22&p=148#p148 NOt sure about a world building forum yet - ideally we would want that when we got access to the tool so we could share techniques/recipes - don't know if it would be usefu...

Re: Feature Requests?

I'm not a software developer, but I've worked with them and on projects managing them. I've seen my fair share of disasters come down the line. I've read the kickstarter and I'm fine with those goals. I wouldn't have put my money down if I wasn't. But the thing is, I'm not interested in OWM1.0. Or e...

Re: How many people here are good at making polar maps?

This is a good discussion, as the major world I'm working on at the moment is a polar/scandinavian setting. What I have used in the past is a dodecahedron "net" template to work out how regional boundaries would fit together. How that would translate into a software program I don't know. I've used a...

Feature Requests?

Hi Guys, I realise that you have a whole bunch of work to do to get your ideas into the program and make it stable, but your in the hands of the customers now :o and they can be very demanding! Are there any plans to announce features you are adding as you go, or a mechanism to allow the "...

Congratulations on KS Success!

I know the project is a long way from near; but from your demos you've already solved my two biggest issues (Creating countries on a map and snapping rivers to coasts!) and I can't wait to see what else you can deliver!

Map Generation Tools

OK, in comparison to the mapping tools thread, can anyone post their favourite map generation tools/algorithms? This is a personal interest of mine; though I wish I had something polished to share. Some links top get things started: love this algorithm for islands: http://www-cs-students.stanford.ed...

Re: Other Mapping Tools

I've used a variety of tools in the past - including both the big ones - Campaign Cartographer and Fractal Mapper. Of the two, Fractal Mapper is preferred, though I give it a 2/10 overall. Campaign Cartographer's latest addons won't even install for me; but the program is a pig and I just can;t get ...

Re: What are your plans for Other World Mapper?

In short ... all of the above! I'm currently running a pathfinder campaign, and it will be used to generate hand-outs for the players. This will be at world - region - city - town - and dungeon levels! I also use maps a lot to organise my thoughts, shape the campaign and decide how the wider world i...
