Alpha 3 Feedback Changes

Post by Kanchou » Sun Nov 01, 2015 11:49 am

Dear Backers,

Sorry for the delay creating this list! October's been really busy for us.

I tried to include a point for all the feedback we received from Alpha 3 in regards to functionality and GUI changes. This doesn't include the bugs, which we are of course working on fixing all of them.

For each point you'll find the action we are taking and how, or if we are waiting to make a decistion. If we missed anything or have concerns with one of the points please reply!

Tool Box Position
The tool box is now dockable to the sides and can also be made to float

Tooltips not shown for toolbars
Fixed .

Property Selection and more
We are doing some pretty involved changes relating to this. You'll still have access to the very detailed properties like in Alpha 3, but we are introducing new “stuff” that hopefully addresses the really good feedback we got. I'll be easier to have you try it out, so we'll see what your feedback is with Beta 1 :)

Keyboard Shortcuts
Keyboard shortcuts will be added

Map Properties
Still investigating how/where to better put them. The majority of the options would fit under a “canvas” dialog accessed from the menu, with the exception of the shoreline. So we are working on a solution for it.

Transform Tool
Scale, Move and Rotate are now done via one single tool, the transform tool. The select tool still remains in case you are just changing properties/selecting items and don't want to accidentally modify them.

Point Editing
We will add the ability to perform group selection of points and editing in groups (delete, move, etc). I'm hoping we can get these changes in with beta 1, but it may be beta 2. Right now GUI and dungeons are priority.

Ocean Currents and Winds
Beta 1 or Beta 2 will add generic shape tools including arrows. Depending on the feedback we can add specialized tools later down the road.

Namespaces
We will table that discussion until beta 2 or 3. It's a great idea that gave us even more ideas :), but we don't want to risk further slipping the schedule.

Fractal Generation
History
So you can scroll forward to generate new fractals and back to go through the previous ones. We will add this feature with either beta 1 or beta 2
Shortcuts
Shortcuts were added for forward/backwards through the fractals

Fractal Factor
We are improving the fractal generation hopefully with Beta 1. We will add an option to have “automatic” fractal factor/segments just like with have the automatic amplitude. With that option enable the number of segments between two clicked points will change as the two points are moved further away.

Auto Select feature placed
We will add a program option to auto select the feature just placed instead of remaining on the add tool. Both options will be available since we know some people like for it to work the way it does now.

Add/subtract from selection
Adding ALT-Click for removing from selection.

Color Coded Layers for grouped items
We are aiming for this to be introduced with Beta 2. Proof of concept looked good and it's a good way to show grouped items without messing with the idea behind the layers. Thank you!!

Archipelago Generator
We will try to add a tool, even if rudimentary with the final release. Stefan is right that currently trying to add small islands is unnecessarily time consuming.

All of it sounds very exciting. :) Can't wait to try out the new GUI.

What is your current time estimate for Beta 1?

We still don't have a solid date for Beta 1. Several events have impacted our schedule, including late assets we are still waiting on, some things taking longer in the development front that we had planned and me personally getting behind my section of work. We also were a bit more ambitious with Beta 1 that we originally planned to consolidate some of the work into less releases, which is also impacting the release date for Beta 1.

We're going to ask for patience from our backers this time. We want Beta 1 to be very solid, so we won't release it until it's ready.

No matter what, you'll see a dev log from us this month showing our development progress and hopefully the additional artwork.
