Re: Black blocks when zooming out
I'm seeing kind of the opposite on Linux. When I zoom out to the point where my map doesn't completely fill the OWM display area, I'll get a light grey square in the upper left, which is the same size as the map. Seems like it's blanking out that area expecting the map to be in the upper left, but t...

Re: "Zone" maps
As someone who never played Fate, may I ask you to explain a little bit more what you're trying to archieve? :) I've never actually played Fate myself either (it has strong narrative metagame mechanics, which I absolutely hate), but I've encountered zone-based maps in other RPGs. Fate just seems to...

Re: PNG compression
No problem, I appreciate the correction! Was that in Linux or Windows? In Linux/OSX libpng does the encoding of the png export and it must be doing (lossless) compression by default. This was in Linux. I didn't think to try on Windows (I use both versions of OWM, but I'm always in Linux when readin...

"Zone" maps
I use OWM for RPGs and have started experimenting with Fate-style "zone" maps, which are meant to be simpler and more abstract than traditional gridded maps and tend to divide things up into irregularly-shaped and -sized areas, such as this example that I found online: https://media.discordapp.net/a...

Re: PNG compression
Short answer: OWM does not compress formats that aren't typically lossy. So PNG, tiff, etc. are uncompressed. Jpeg is the format the only one that enables the "quality" slider (tied to compression). I hate to disagree with you about your own software, but this is not correct. I just opened an OWM-e...

Re: PNG compression
PNG is not meant to be compressed. As a file format, it is meant to be uncompressed ... it's supposed to be a lossless file format. Erm... Ever use a .zip (or .gz, or .tgz, or .rar, or .7z, or...) file? Lossless compression is a thing. PNG is both compressed and lossless. If it wasn't compressed, t...

Re: Spacing between letters
I think what you are asking for here is kerning. It is a means of adjusting the spacing between letters and a lot of graphics software, like Photoshop and Affinity Photo, have this. It would definitely be great to have the ability to adjust kerning in OWM. Technically, according to wikipedia, he's ...

Re: Scale bar tool
I think that most people are creating fantasy maps and only really need a general (not completely accurate) scale bar. And they want the scale bar to look cool and match the appearance of their map design. Even so, as one of those "creating fantasy maps" people, it's still a PITA to have to switch ...

Re: number of sections instead pixel based calculated
I think that would need to be an option (choose either "distance between lines" or "number of segments") because a lot of people are using OWM to make RPG battlemaps, where you normally need a map of one-inch squares, so they'll want to be able to set the grid size to "one inch" rather than looking ...

Re: Scaling of imported SVG Artwork
Although I haven't worked with SVG features, I've noticed a couple other places in OWM where there's a box that allows you to type in a value, plus an attached slider, and OWM hard-clamps the allowed direct-input values to the slider's range. It would be nice if, as a general thing, it would allow y...
