Re: Best Place to Post Images (to Link here)

I played with the export a bit on my test map. What was 12 MB as a PNG, shrunk to 1.2 MB with JPG and ~300KB with some compression. The JPG actually looked a little better. One of the fonts I picked was a bit busy. Still need to play with that. Still having trouble making the rivers go exactly where...

Label Error

Got this message when trying to move some labels about. I think I see the issue though. In the object explorer, there were labels on the Canvas and labels on the land mass. When I tried to move labels from the ocean to the landmass, I got this error. Some of my labels for my cities overlapped into t...

Re: Best Place to Post Images (to Link here)

Easy enough to screen grab if needed. Part of the technical skill of making maps, it seems, is how to control the size and scaling. A good artist can select colors and blends to make it work. Those of us that are not artists need some help. I haven't seen a good site with styles shown (ancient, fant...

Re: Windrose

The wind roses in ancient maps used lines across the ocean to show the time the distance will take based on the prevailing winds. So, the lines extend across the ocean. I think I could add them manually but was thinking I might have an issue with the layering. I want it on the ocean but not the land...

Re: My First Map Effort- Questions and Suggestions for OWM

I think I made the mistake of setting the resolution too high at start. I'm thinking the correct resolution is no more than 300 dpi at the expected document size? Say 300 x 20 inches by 300 x 20 inches? Perhaps smaller for VTT. It's probably just a better design decision at the start. (The image I g...

Re: My First Map Effort- Questions and Suggestions for OWM

Question to OWM --- how do you think you are doing on Fonts at this point? That seems a bit of a challenge at this time. I'm less worried about bending around things as it seems that the fonts are not rendering correctly? Do you have a preference for fonts and sizes that seems to work well? Perhaps ...

Windrose

Is there a way to make Windroses in OWM? If not, that would be a nice feature. A windrose are lines on the map showing distances considering wind and such. I suppose I could draw them with a line but not sure how it would go with layers. Linky: https://www.alamy.com/old-map-of-europe-with-wind-rose-...

Re: Best Place to Post Images (to Link here)

Thanks!!! I'm not a Facey Book person (too much potential for abuse). I guess I can lurk a bit. Speaking of abuse, I found the Reddit spot on map making as well: https://www.reddit.com/r/mapmaking And, of course the Cartographer's Guild: https://www.cartographersguild.com/content.php The information...

Best Place to Post Images (to Link here)

Sometimes a picture is worth a 1,000 words especially when demo-ing maps and such. What do you recommend for a place to store images to link here? There's a place to add attachments below? Is that the best place? Is there a size limit? Seems like a place to post samples would start some conversation...
